What Disc Conditions Can a Chiropractor Help With?
Bulging, herniated and degenerated discs are common — and conservative chiropractic care is often the first line of treatment.
Spinal discs are the soft, gel-filled cushions between your vertebrae. They absorb impact, allow movement and protect the nerves that travel through the spine. When a disc becomes irritated, displaced or worn down, the result can range from a dull ache to sharp, radiating pain that travels into an arm or a leg.
Conditions chiropractic care commonly addresses
Bulging discs occur when the outer layer of the disc weakens and pushes outward. Herniated discs go a step further, with the inner material breaking through the outer wall and pressing against nearby nerves. Degenerative disc disease describes the gradual loss of disc height and hydration that comes with age or repeated strain.
Through gentle adjustments, spinal decompression and targeted soft-tissue work, chiropractors aim to relieve pressure on the affected disc, improve mobility in the surrounding joints and create the space the body needs to heal. For many patients, this conservative approach is enough to avoid injections or surgery.
When to seek care
Persistent back or neck pain, numbness, tingling or weakness in a limb are signs worth evaluating. Acting early often shortens recovery and reduces the risk of long-term damage.
